Youth Ministry
Every day our young people are told a thousand stories about WHO they are, but at Covenant, we take seriously the mission to teach them WHOSE they are. The world continues to challenge young people in ways the adults in their lives can hardly believe; their minds are growing, they’re learning more, asking questions….traits that make some adults uneasy, but the Covenant mission encourages and celebrates the growing intellects of young people. We believe a strong faith can ask hard questions, and we believe in a big God who blesses the ways young people change.
Our focus at Covenant builds on the three questions asked and answered in each of the four gospels, pushing our young people to apply and answer them in their own lives:
When and where did Jesus first appear?
What are the ways Christ is moving in your world?
What are the promises Christ has for you?
The easy answers of childhood don’t work so well as young people grow. Covenant does not want your youth to stay the same, but grow and mature in ways that speak to our God who continues to create us new every day. They have a place, not just in the youth program, but within the ministries of the larger church, seizing opportunities to serve on Sundays and throughout the week. The church will love them, they will love each other, and every youth coming in the door will leave with the unmistakable truth that the God of the universe is SO EXCITED to love them.
Sundays
In addition to the 9:45am Sunday school hour where they explore their growing spirituality, our Youth also actively take part in leading Sunday Morning worship through prayers, scripture readings, and music. Youth also serve by taking up offering in worship on scheduled Sundays throughout the year.
There are also opportunities after church on special Sundays for an outing to lunch and an activity to further build relationships to support each other on this journey with God.
Wednesdays
Wednesdays are for temperature checks, to see how each of us are responding to whatever that week has thrown at us. We want to be intentional in creating opportunities to reflect on our weeks thus far, to share about the ways we’ve seen God moving, and to encourage each of us to finish the week strong. We’ll share a meal, invest in service opportunities with the church, and learn more about the ways God is moving within each person and throughout our church as a whole. Stresses and struggles are as welcome as celebrations and victories, and we believe in a God who is right beside us through it all.
