Rev. Chris Hensley, Pastor
Chris began serving Covenant in May of 2018. He is a graduate of Gardner-Webb University with both a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Care and Counseling. He has also been trained as a clinical chaplain at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. His previous experience includes:director of youth and children ministry, associate chaplain, and pastor prior to joining Covenant.

Chris lives in Belmont with his wife, Amanda and their son, Daniel. He enjoys spending time with his family, striving to hit the mark as an archer, struggling to make things grow in his garden, and being tossed around as he practices the martial art of Aikido.

 

 
Pam Phillips, Minister of Preschool and Children
Pam Phillips began serving as Director of Preschool and Children’s Ministries in October, 1999. She graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and earned a Master of Divinity in Christian Education from Gardner-Webb School of Divinity. Pam and her husband have three children and three grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with her family and reading.
 

 
Nick Clanton, Minister of Youth
Nick is a graduate of Western Carolina University, holding B.S. degrees in Political Science and History, and a graduate of Gardner-Webb University with his Master of Divinity in Pastoral Studies. He has served in a variety of congregational and ministerial contexts in both NC and Texas, working to connect those ministries with the larger communities. His oh-so-brief spare time is split between camping, running, getting up way too early on Saturdays to watch soccer, and living every week like it's Shark Week.
   

   
Eugene Bumgardner, Choir Director
Mr. Eugene Bumgardner is a 1976 graduate of Gardner Webb University where he majored in music education with a concentration in voice. He has taught high school choral music for 37 years. He taught 30 years at Kings Mountain High School where his group received superior ratings for 27 consecutive years. After retiring from NC, He taught at Gaffney High for one year, 5 years at Northwestern High school in Rock Hill, S.C. where his groups placed second in the state twice and taught South Pointe High School in 2014 on an interim basis for 8 months. He directed the South Pointe Concert Choir to a superior rating at state contest and a first place finish and a Best in Class award in the Disney Choral Festival in Orlando . His groups have received superior ratings at state contests in North and South Carolina and at national contest festivals in Atlanta, Washington, Virginia and Orlando, Florida. His choirs have performed by invitation to NCMEA, SCACDA, SCMEA as well as Southern Division ACDA. His Kings Mountain Symphonic Chorale performed the national anthem for the Atlanta Braves twice. He has the distinct honor of being the first clinician to conduct the North Carolina Junior High Honor Chorus at the state convention in Winston Salem. He has conducted clinics in North and South Carolina area festivals. He currently serves as choir director at Clover First Baptist Church and Covenant Baptist Church in Gastonia. He is married to Becky Bumgardner, retired choral director of Forestview High School. They have three grown children. Benjamin Bumgardner, Beth Aron and Harrison Bumgardner. They also have 2 grandchildren, Atlee and Mack Bumgardner.
 

 

Jerry Fulham, Organist
Jerry began serving as organist at Covenant Baptist Church May 2016. He resides in Belmont with his wife Sharon. They have one son, Jonathan. Jerry has earned A.S., B.S., and M.S. degrees from Wingate University, Atlantic Christian College/Barton College, and N. C. A. & T. State University. Jerry has taught at the college level and spent most of his career teaching in Gaston County Schools including high school chorus and elementary music. While teaching he has also held part-time positions in churches serving as church organist, pianist, and choir director.

   

   

Becky Bumgardner, Pianist
Becky Bumgardner is a retired choral director of the Gaston County Schools. She has accompanied many groups on local and state levels. Most recently, she enjoys accompanying groups directed by former students at Mount Holly Middle and Forestview High School. Mrs. Bumgardner received her music Education degree from Mars Hill College. She is married to another choral director, Eugene Bumgardner. They have three children and two grandchildren.

   

 

Sharon Waters, Church Administration
Sharon has worked as a church administrative assistant since 1990 and joined the team at Covenant Baptist in March, 2006. She has an Associate of Arts degree from Gaston College. Sharon and her husband, Chester, have three sons and seven grandchildren. Sharon enjoys “Game Night” with her family and mountain vacations.
