CHURCH SECRETARY

Covenant Baptist Church of Gastonia, NC is seeking a full-time Church Secretary for an active church office in a multi-staff setting.

Position Title: Church Secretary
Hours: 8:00-5:15 Mon-Thurs; 8:00-1:00 Fri (40-hour week)
Pay Rate: Negotiable, based on experience/education. Hourly, Non-exempt employee

Overview:

  • Must be a Christian and represent not only Covenant Baptist Church, but Jesus Christ Himself and demonstrate a real love and concern for all people.
  • Must be pleasant, discreet, tactful, and capable of honoring confidential communications.
  • Must have general knowledge of all office equipment and supplies and a willingness to pursue additional training.
  • Must show a willing attitude of Christian service to their positon and its responsibility. Must be able to deal with numerous interruptions in work and be able to multi-task various tasks.
  • Must possess good telephone and communication skills.
  • Must be able to deal with various types of personalities, both on the phone and in person, in a professional manner.
  • Must be an active member of a local church.
  • Perform general office work under the supervision of the Senior Pastor and in cooperation with other staff members and/or laity.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Provide clerical support to the Senior Pastor, other ministerial staff, church staff, and various program areas.
  • Greet and assist visitors. Answer and direct phone calls and distribute mail.
  • Create the weekly church bulletin and inserts.Create and/or edit and distribute the weekly church newsletter.
  • Send out updated church news as requested.
  • Prepare and maintain mailing lists and church membership rolls.
  • Maintain church calendar in coordination with various programs of the Church.
  • Work with the Financial Management Group to fulfill financial duties, which include but are not limited to, paying bills, writing checks, processing payroll, church bookkeeping on the Church’s financial software (PowerChurch), recording deposits and individual records of contributions, and other financial duties as necessary.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • High school diploma. Two (2) years experience of administrative/secretarial and accounting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and ability to work with graphs.
  • Basic accounting/bookkeeping procedures and good organizational skills
  • Experience with PowerChurch financial software preferred, but not required. Must be willing to learn basics of PowerChurch.
